Bowie's 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia Show Leaves Viewers Breathless
Bowie's 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia collection set an unprecedented level for other designers to follow. It was a show unlike any other with pieces that one can only imagine. The show descended us into darkness and lightening only to be reawakened into the beautiful morning light of day. The models and the dresses were fresh and radiant. With each stunning piece holding it's own character and individual design elements encapsulating everything from bells to butterflies. Expectations were high and Bowie met them on every level, from runway theatrics to intricately detailed designs. Everything about his collection screamed haute-couture, luxury and were in one word inspired. Emphasising his theme of Aura, his dresses displayed colours ranging from basic white and black to metallic gold and silver. The models wore nude makeup and no jewellery highlighting what was most important on the runway, his delicate and irreplaceable designs.
I was fortunate enough to be able to preview the new collection and have some interview time with Bowie. In the video he talks about his new MBFWA collection, his personal style icons, his upcoming accessories line and dressing the stars for this years Logies! Including a cute story of how Delta Goodrem chose her dress!
Bowie and his team were all smiles backstage when I went to have a peek, it was not the usual chaotic rush to showtime that you may be used to. LA-based Australian stylist to the stars Sophia Banks Coloma was on hand to personally style the collection, her only show for fashion week. Not to mention LA's star hairdresser has flown in specifically and only for Bowie's show to create the fabulous locks that we saw on the runway tonight. What a star-powered team!
